AT MY HOUSE...

At my house we tried this fun and easy science experiment.
As far as I know it only works on these particular flowers - snowdrops we always called them.
They are popping up all over the place at the moment. A sign that spring is almost here.

You just pop them into some water with some food coloring in it and overnight the color creeps up the stem and colors the petals.

Play along with Lou's At My House this week.

Addition - This evening the petals are even more brilliantly colored and these photos (taken this morning) do not do them justice.

Ooo, that's very clever and educational! The only science we seem to get up to around here is whether or not an entire toilet roll, holder included, can be flushed down the loo!!!

Hey, i have been looking for 'snowdrops' during our walks so I could do this when you gave me this idea a while back - i'll have to keep on the lookout as my kids will love it! Have a fun week Em ;-)

they look lovely! i haven't seen it done with snowdrops before, probably because i haven't seem them growing anywhere over here in WA. it also works well with carnations with those lovely frilly leaves and works really well with celery. leave the leaves on top! you can see the veins really well in the celery and you can chop the stick in half to see the dots of the veins. and if you slice the bottom half up the middle and put one half in blue and the other in red you get a nice purple effect happening up the top. works with the blue and yellow as well

An oldie but a goodie. I have seen quite a few snowdrops around Melbourne but the carnations and celery sound like fun as well, especially the mixing - very clever Megan.

I really should do a bit of experimenting with my 4 year old. He would love it.

Thanks for joining in again this week. Lou.

Such a simple but fantastic idea! I will give this a go with the kids (and I saw today's post with the celery and will try that seeing as I have a glut in the fridge!). Thanks for Rewinding x
